This section reviews the parameters that should be considered when activating and configuring the production module in Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Business Central Versions

Business Central is offered in two versions: Essential and Premium. The Essential version includes all the basic modules of the system and some additional professional modules, such as:

  • Supply Chain Planning
  • Project Management
  • Warehouse Management (WMS)
  • Assembly Management

For its part, the Premium version provides access to the remaining modules, that is, everything included in the Essential version plus:

  • Service Management
  • Production

Requirement to Activate the Manufacturing Module

The first requirement to activate the manufacturing module in Business Central is to have a Premium license. Once you have the corresponding license, it is essential to take a fundamental additional step: activate the Premium user experience. This action enables all operations and objects (pages, tables, etc.) exclusive to Premium licensing.

Access to the Company Information Page

To activate the Premium experience, you need to open the “Business Information” page. It can be accessed using the search engine and entering the term “Company Information”.

Go to the Company Information page and locate the “User Experience” fasttab, which is usually located at the bottom.

In the “Experience” field, change the value from “Essential” to “Premium”.

It’s also important to set up the base calendar, which defines the working and non-working days for the company. This makes it easier to plan production, shipments, and receipts, avoiding scheduling activities on holidays. To set it, go to “Company Information” and select the Shipping Fasttab.

The initial activation and configuration of the manufacturing module in Dynamics Business Central has been completed.

In conclusion, activating the manufacturing module in Dynamics Business Central requires a Premium license and enabling the corresponding user experience. In addition, setting up the base calendar is essential to optimize planning and avoid production incidents. Complying with these steps allows organizations to take full advantage of the system’s capabilities and strengthen the management of their manufacturing processes.
